How the SEO score is calculated
The score is not a black box. Each rule has a number of points, shown next to it, and the final score is the percentage of points earned out of the total possible. The rules cover things you can fix straight away: the keyword in the headline, in the first paragraph and in a subheading, keyword density, text length, the share of long sentences, oversized paragraphs, the number of subheadings and links, varied anchor text and the use of linking words.
If you leave the keyword empty, the rules that depend on it are skipped and the score is calculated from the rest. For a complete picture, always fill it in.
Keyword density, without obsessing
Density is the number of exact occurrences of the phrase divided by the total number of words. The tool uses 0.5–2.5% as a guide, but there is no magic value. A text that forces the same phrase in again and again sounds artificial and loses the reader’s trust. That is why we also show occurrences “with forms”: simple inflected variants such as plurals and -ing or -ed endings, which are perfectly natural in English.
The readability index
For English we use the Flesch Reading Ease score. It combines the average number of words per sentence with the average number of syllables per word, and returns a number that is usually between 0 and 100: the higher it is, the easier the text. As a guide, 60–70 is plain English, 50–59 is fairly difficult and below 30 is very difficult. Here, 50 or above earns full points, 35–49 earns partial points and anything lower earns none. Syllables are counted by a simple rule of thumb, so treat the figure as indicative, not as a standard. Short sentences and everyday words make a text easier to read, especially on a phone. The Romanian version of the tool uses the LIX index.
What the tool does not check
- the quality of the information and the accuracy of the facts;
- images and their alt text;
- the search intent behind the keyword;
- compliance with the publishing rules (for that, use the compliance checker).
Once the text looks good, you can test the headline and description in the Google SERP preview.
Frequently asked questions
Questions about seo analyser
What format should the pasted text be in?
You can paste plain text, Markdown or HTML. The tool recognises headings marked with # or ##, h1–h6 tags, links written as [text](url), HTML links and full web addresses. In plain text, short lines with no full stop at the end are treated as subheadings.
What is the ideal keyword density?
There is no official ideal. The tool uses 0.5–2.5% as a guide, calculated as the number of exact occurrences divided by the total number of words. More important than the percentage is that the phrase appears naturally, in the headline, in the first paragraph and in a subheading.
Does the SEO score show where the article will rank in Google?
No. The score only shows how well the text follows a few good practices of structure and optimisation. Your position in the results depends on many other factors, such as the authority of the site, the competition for the keyword and how useful the content is.
Why does the tool use the Flesch Reading Ease score for English?
It is a widely known formula based on sentence length and syllables per word, so it suits English text. It is only a rough guide: it cannot judge clarity, tone or whether the content is useful. The Romanian version of this tool uses the LIX index instead.
Is my article saved or sent anywhere?
No. The analysis runs entirely in your browser and the text is not sent to any server.
